Tears for Fears Reveal Deluxe Edition of 1989 Album The Seeds of Love: “It Surprised a Lot of People!”

The upcoming deluxe edition of Tears for Fears’ The Seeds of Love will include newly created Atmos and stereo mixes by Steven Wilson.
Tears for Fears are set to revisit one of their most acclaimed records with a deluxe reissue of their 1989 album The Seeds of Love. The expanded edition is scheduled to arrive Oct. 16 via UMC and will be available across multiple physical formats.
Among the highlights of the new release are completely new Atmos and stereo mixes created by Steven Wilson, a longtime admirer of the album who has named The Seeds of Love among his five favorite records of all time.
Fans will have several editions to choose from. The vinyl and CD releases include a two-LP version pressed on eye-catching blue special-effect vinyl and featuring different artwork. That set combines the original album with a collection of B-sides and demos, several of which will make their vinyl debut.
A three-CD package will go even further, bringing together rare and alternate mixes, single versions, B-sides and other material connected to the album. A limited-edition Blu-ray will also be available as part of the reissue campaign.
Originally released in September 1989, The Seeds of Love showcased Tears for Fears moving into a more ambitious, Beatles-inspired musical direction. The album was both a critical and commercial success, opening at No. 1 on the U.K. Albums Chart and earning Platinum status from the BPI only three weeks after its release. It also achieved Platinum certification in the U.S., where it climbed to No. 8 on the Billboard 200.
Looking back on the record, Roland Orzabal considers it one of the band’s strongest achievements.
“Out of all our albums, I’d probably rank it highest,” Orzabal says. “I think it surprised a lot of people, a lot of our peers as well, people who maybe we were being compared to in the mid-Eighties.”
