Paul McCartney recently surprised fans by performing with Andrew Watt and Chad Smith at an intimate 250-capacity club in Amagansett.

During the surprise appearance, Paul McCartney performed a Neil Young classic before launching into an improvised version of a Beatles hit.

Unannounced special guest appearances don’t get much more unexpected or extraordinary than Paul McCartney’s recent performance at the Stephen Talkhouse in Amagansett, NY. The Beatles icon made the brief journey from his home in The Hamptons to join producer Andrew Watt—who collaborated with McCartney on last year’s Rolling Stones album Hackney Diamonds—along with Red Hot Chili Peppers drummer Chad Smith, Hall & Oates guitarist G.E. Smith, musical director and bassist Ivan “Funkboy” Bodley, and singer-songwriter Charlotte Lawrence.

McCartney treated the 250 attendees to a memorable set, including a duet with Lawrence on Neil Young’s “Rockin’ In The Free World” and a somewhat impromptu rendition of The Beatles’ “I Saw Her Standing There,” originally released in 1963. Footage of this special performance is available below.

Attendee Ryan Sherman shared, “Paul dropped the mic like it was a rap battle and then walked off. Mind blown. It was one of the coolest things we’ve all ever seen.”

While Paul McCartney’s voice may not be what it once was, those who witnessed the performance at the Stephen Talkhouse will undoubtedly remember the experience for the rest of their lives. Even fans who weren’t there are likely to recount the event with enthusiasm.

The Stephen Talkhouse, named after a late 19th-century Montaukett Native American, opened in 1987 and has since hosted a distinguished lineup of musicians, including Buddy Guy, Southside Johnny, Buster Poindexter, 10,000 Maniacs, Loudon Wainwright III, Judy Collins, Taj Mahal, Steve Earle, Leon Russell, Roy Buchanan, and Jeff Buckley.
