On Wednesday, July 30, the late “Prince of Darkness” was honored with a funeral procession through Birmingham, England—his cherished hometown. Family members joined the solemn event while crowds of fans lined the streets to pay their respects.
The procession made its way along Broad Street, home to the Black Sabbath bridge and bench, which had been transformed into a tribute site for the “Crazy Train” icon. Flowers, photographs, and heartfelt notes adorned the area.
A live brass band, Bostin’ Brass, hailing from Birmingham, accompanied the cortege and played “Iron Man” as the hearse passed by.
Osbourne’s coffin was decorated with purple flowers arranged to spell his name. Fans showered the hearse with flowers and chanted, “Ozzy, Ozzy,” as a tribute.
The procession paused at the Black Sabbath bridge, where the family—including Ozzy’s grandchildren—got out of their vehicles to spend about five minutes viewing the public tributes, according to footage from the BBC. Supporters in the crowd shouted, “We love you, Sharon,” as Ozzy’s visibly emotional wife, Sharon Osbourne, was comforted by their daughter Kelly Osbourne, who held her hand throughout the moment. Ozzy’s children Jack and Aimee Osbourne, along with his son Louis Osbourne, were also present and appeared moved as they took in the scene.
Dressed in black, the family flashed peace signs to the gathered crowd before placing their own floral tributes. Sharon was supported by Kelly, 40, and Jack, 39, as they honored Ozzy’s memory.
Later that day, a private burial was scheduled in Buckinghamshire, according to BBC News.
Following his passing, a source revealed to PEOPLE that Ozzy and Sharon had relocated to Buckinghamshire in 2023.
“Ozzy Osbourne’s family shared the heartbreaking news of his passing in a statement to PEOPLE, saying, ‘It is with more sorrow than words can express that we announce the loss of our beloved Ozzy Osbourne this morning. He was surrounded by family and love. We kindly request privacy during this difficult time.’”
Just weeks prior to his passing, Ozzy took the stage for Black Sabbath’s final concert, marking their first reunion in two decades. Due to his battle with Parkinson’s disease, he was unable to stand and performed while seated on a throne at Birmingham’s Villa Park on July 5, thrilling thousands of devoted fans.
More than ten years before his death, Osbourne had shared his thoughts about his future funeral with The Times, stating that he didn’t want the occasion to be a somber or mournful event.
