Metallica Expresses Interest in Performing at Las Vegas Sphere: “Absolutely!”

In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Metallica guitarist Kirk Hammett was asked whether he and his bandmates would consider performing at the Las Vegas Sphere, a 17,600-capacity venue that has revolutionized live entertainment since its debut in September 2023. Hammett enthusiastically replied, “Oh, heck, yeah! It’s a perfect example of how venues are evolving. They’re fully embracing modern technology to elevate production and entertainment, incorporating A.I. to create an amazing experience.”
The Las Vegas Sphere, a massive spherical venue renowned for its immersive entertainment experiences, including concerts and films, features a cutting-edge 16K resolution wraparound screen and an advanced sound system. Located near the Venetian Resort and Wynn Las Vegas just off the Las Vegas Strip, this venue has already hosted residencies from iconic rock bands like U2, Phish, Dead & Company, and The Eagles.
U2 kicked off the venue’s opening with a spectacular show, featuring 160,000-square-foot LED screens and 4D elements. The band performed to over 700,000 fans across 40 sold-out dates from September 2023 to March 2024, celebrating their influential 1991 album Achtung Baby in its entirety, along with select tracks from other albums.
The event, titled U2:UV Achtung Baby Live At Sphere, quickly became a pop culture phenomenon, marking the debut of the world’s most technologically advanced venue. The show’s breathtaking visuals and live performances, enhanced by the venue’s cutting-edge technology, including the world’s most sophisticated audio system, went viral, with fans around the globe sharing their experiences on social media, generating billions of impressions. This event became a global sensation, thanks to U2’s collaboration with long-time creative partner Willie Williams and artists like Es Devlin, John Gerrard, Marco Brambilla, and producer Brian Eno.
