This high-profile collaboration is featured on the soundtrack for Jack Black’s latest film, A Minecraft Movie.
Jack Black has joined forces with Dave Grohl and other notable musicians for a song featured in his upcoming film, A Minecraft Movie.
Titled I Feel Alive, the track showcases Black as the lead vocalist and Grohl on drums. It also features guitarist Troy Van Leeuwen of Queens of the Stone Age, with co-production credits going to Black, Andrew Watt (known for his work with Ozzy Osbourne and Post Malone), and Mark Ronson (renowned for collaborations with Queens of the Stone Age and Amy Winehouse).
This isn’t the first time Black and Grohl have worked together. The Foo Fighters and former Nirvana drummer has played on every studio album by Black’s comedy rock band, Tenacious D. Grohl also famously portrayed the Devil in Tenacious D: The Pick of Destiny back in 2006.
Tenacious D are currently on hiatus following a controversial incident last year. The band took a break after Kyle Gass, Jack Black’s bandmate, made a controversial joke about the assassination attempt on President Donald Trump, which occurred just hours before. Black expressed that he was “blindsided” by the remark and subsequently canceled the band’s scheduled plans. However, he later mentioned to Variety that Tenacious D will eventually return.
Despite the hiatus, new Tenacious D music emerged last month with their cover of REO Speedwagon’s Keep On Loving You. This track appeared on Good Music To Lift Los Angeles, a charity album supporting those impacted by the Southern California wildfires. It’s unclear whether the cover was recorded before or after the band’s break.
Meanwhile, Dave Grohl continues his work with Foo Fighters, although the band faced controversy last year when Grohl revealed he had fathered a child outside his marriage. As a result, the group canceled their scheduled performance at the Southside Music Festival in Bridgeport, Connecticut, and currently have no upcoming live shows planned.
The Minecraft Movie, featuring Jack Black alongside Jason Momoa and Danielle Brooks, is set to premiere on April 4.
