Alice Cooper paid tribute to Ozzy Osbourne during his recent show in London, and he wasn’t alone — Johnny Depp joined him on stage for the special moment.
On July 25, just three days after Osbourne’s family announced the rock legend’s passing at age 76, Cooper, 77, paid his respects during a sold-out performance at the O2 Arena. Midway through the show, the crowd was stunned when Depp, 62, made an unannounced appearance to perform Black Sabbath’s 1970 classic “Paranoid” alongside Cooper.
Depp, who plays guitar in Cooper’s supergroup Hollywood Vampires, took the stage partway through the song, guitar in hand. Cooper, wearing a T-shirt with Osbourne’s image, raised his fist as the song ended — a powerful tribute moment captured in fan-shared footage on YouTube.
The London concert was part of Cooper’s joint show with Judas Priest, coinciding with the release of The Revenge of Alice Cooper, the first studio album by the Alice Cooper band in over 50 years — since 1973’s Muscle of Love.
Following the Ozzy tribute, Depp remained on stage to perform a second song, “School’s Out,” alongside original Alice Cooper bandmates Dennis Dunaway, Neal Smith, and Michael Bruce.
Depp and Cooper have a long history of collaboration through Hollywood Vampires, a band they co-founded in 2012 with Joe Perry and Tommy Henriksen. Their most recent album, Rise, was released in 2019.
Earlier that day, Cooper reflected on Osbourne’s legacy during an interview with Planet Rock, recalling the moment he heard the news.
“I was heading to the stage when I found out,” Cooper said. “I thought, ‘This can’t be right.’ I’d just seen him perform recently, and he sounded great. Even when you know it’s coming, it still hits hard. It’s a real shock.”
Cooper told the crowd, “Let’s say goodnight to Ozzy,” leading fans in a heartfelt chant of “Ozzy, Ozzy.” He described Osbourne as a beloved figure in rock history.
In a separate appearance on The Scott Mills Breakfast Show, Cooper called Osbourne a “lifer” in rock, putting him in the same league as legendary acts like The Rolling Stones and The Beatles.
“There are some people who are just meant to do this forever,” Cooper said. “I’ve always felt like I’ll keep going until I can’t anymore — and I think Ozzy felt the same way.”
