After Steven Tyler suffered a fractured larynx during a September 2023 concert, the band announced in August 2024 that it would no longer tour. In a recent conversation with Boston radio station WBUR, guitarist Joe Perry shared his thoughts on whether the group might reunite for another performance.
“I think there’s probably still one more Aerosmith show in us,” Perry said, hinting that a potential documentary could be tied to such an event.
Still, fans shouldn’t anticipate a major comeback. “I’ve been spending a lot of time with Steven, and the truth is, he has no interest in touring — and physically, he can’t,” Perry admitted. Currently on the road with his Joe Perry Project and opening for The Who, he added, “I don’t know if I’d even want to commit to another 40-city run. Keeping up that pace, especially with an Aerosmith tour, takes a toll.”
Tyler did briefly return to the stage in February for his Jam for Janie Grammy Awards Viewing Party in Los Angeles, but Perry stressed that it doesn’t mean he’s ready for the demands of a full tour. “I’ll never completely rule it out, but I wouldn’t count on it,” he told WBUR. “At this stage, we’re all asking ourselves how we want to spend the time we have left.”
After that February performance, former Guns N’ Roses drummer Matt Sorum shared that it was a significant moment for Tyler given the severity of his injury. Still, Sorum confirmed that a world tour is off the table. “Steven can’t put himself through the pressure of a full global schedule,” he said, noting the frontman’s perfectionism and the unique strain vocalists endure. “At 77, if he feels he’s not delivering at his best, it really gets to him.”
