Born John Francis Bongiovi Jr. on March 2, 1962, in Perth Amboy, New Jersey, he grew up as the son of former Marines John Sr. and Carol Bongiovi. During his teenage years, he played in several bands and, in the mid-1980s, worked at a recording studio owned by his cousin Tony.
