Green Day Set to Kick Off Super Bowl LX With Special Performance Featuring NFL MVPs

The show will double as a homecoming for the Bay Area band.
Green Day is heading back home — bringing their signature punk rock energy to the Super Bowl stage.
The NFL announced on Sunday, Jan. 18, that the iconic California East Bay band, formed in 1987, will kick off Super Bowl LX with a high-energy opening ceremony.
To mark the 60th anniversary of the Super Bowl, Green Day will welcome generations of Super Bowl MVPs onto the field during a performance of some of their most legendary rock hits, according to an NFL press release.
“We’re beyond excited to open Super Bowl 60 right in our backyard,” frontman Billie Joe Armstrong said. “It’s an honor to celebrate the MVPs who’ve made this game what it is and to start the night for fans all over the world. Let’s have fun! Let’s get loud!”
The opening ceremony will air live from Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California, on Feb. 8 at 3:00 p.m. PT on NBC, Telemundo, Peacock, and Universo.
Tim Tubito, NFL senior director of event and game presentation, called the lineup “an incredibly powerful way to kick off Super Bowl LX,” highlighting both the hometown significance of Green Day and the recognition of NFL legends who helped shape the sport. He added that, in partnership with NBC Sports, the goal is to create a celebration that unites fans in the stadium and around the world.
Green Day released their most recent studio album, Saviors, in January 2024.
Alongside Green Day, the Super Bowl opening will feature Charlie Puth performing the national anthem, Brandi Carlile singing “America the Beautiful,” and Coco Jones performing “Lift Every Voice and Sing.” Bad Bunny is set to headline the halftime show.
On Jan. 16, the Puerto Rican superstar, 31, released a trailer for his Apple Music Super Bowl LX Halftime Show. The teaser was described as an invitation for fans worldwide to join him for a performance full of rhythm, unity, and cultural celebration.
“This moment is bigger than me,” Bad Bunny said. “It’s for those who came before me and paved the way so I could score my touchdown. This is for my people, my culture, and our history. Ve y dile a tu abuela, que seremos el HALFTIME SHOW DEL SUPER BOWL.”
