Elton John Celebrates 36 Years of Sobriety, Saying He’s ‘Grateful for Every Day’

Elton John is marking a deeply meaningful personal anniversary.
On Wednesday, July 29, the 79-year-old British music legend revealed on social media that he has now gone 36 years without drinking alcohol. In an Instagram post, John celebrated the milestone by reflecting on his sobriety and expressing gratitude for each day.
The photo accompanying his message showed the singer seated at an outdoor restaurant on a bright, sunny day. He smiled toward the camera while holding a glass of Elton John Zero Blanc de Blancs, with the matching bottle chilling nearby in an ice-filled wine bucket. John later shared the photo to his Instagram Stories, pairing it with his 1983 classic “I’m Still Standing.”
Elton John Zero Blanc de Blancs is a premium sparkling wine containing 0.0% alcohol. The drink comes in a royal blue bottle featuring John’s signature “E” star emblem and was introduced in January 2026 by John and his husband, David Furnish.
John has described the product as an effort to make celebrations more inclusive, allowing people to participate in a toast regardless of whether they drink alcohol. The alcohol-free Blanc de Blancs is designed to retain the sophistication and bubbly character associated with the traditional style.
The singer has spoken publicly for years about his recovery and his decision to leave alcohol and other substances behind. His journey was also portrayed in the 2019 biographical film Rocketman, starring Taron Egerton, which explored the personal struggles that eventually led John to stop using alcohol, marijuana and cocaine.
