Metallica’s lead singer brings some humor to his 61st birthday celebration by performing while under the effects of helium gas.
James Hetfield, the frontman of Metallica, marked his 61st birthday by performing a high-pitched rendition of the band’s classic hit “Enter Sandman.” A video shared on Metallica’s Instagram captures Hetfield inhaling helium from a birthday balloon before singing “Happy Birthday” to himself. He then humorously announces, “Hi, everybody. I’m 61. Did you know that?” After a fit of giggles, Hetfield delivers a unique version of “Enter Sandman” that you have to hear to believe.
“Enter Sandman,” from Metallica’s Black Album, was released on July 29, 1991. It reached No. 16 on the US charts and No. 5 in the UK. The track and the album were pivotal in transforming Metallica from a leading metal band into a significant mainstream presence.
