The celebration of Macca and Springsteen’s collaboration carried on in The Beatles’ hometown last night.
In Liverpool, Bruce Springsteen was joined on stage by Paul McCartney to perform The Beatles’ classic “Can’t Buy Me Love.”
During the encore of Springsteen’s second show at Anfield Park—the home stadium of Liverpool Football Club—on Saturday, June 10, McCartney teamed up with Springsteen and the E Street Band. Together, they also played “Kansas City,” a ’50s rock’n’roll hit famously covered by Little Richard and later by The Beatles in the early 1960s. Video footage of both performances is available below.
This wasn’t the first time Springsteen and McCartney shared the stage. Back in 2012, McCartney appeared with the E Street Band at London’s Hyde Park, performing “I Saw Her Standing There” and “Twist and Shout.” However, the set was cut short when organizers stopped the music mid-song due to the show running overtime—a move that led guitarist Steven Van Zandt to remark, “When did England become a police state?”
In 2022, Springsteen joined McCartney on his Get Back tour in New Jersey, where they performed Springsteen’s “Glory Days” and The Beatles’ “I Wanna Be Your Man.” Springsteen also appeared with McCartney during his headlining set at Glastonbury just days later.
Fans had anticipated McCartney’s surprise appearance after the two musicians met the day before at the Liverpool Institute of Performing Arts, the school McCartney founded in the 1990s.
Springsteen’s ongoing UK and European Land Of Hope And Dreams tour has been marked by notable moments, including his opening show in Manchester where he criticized then-US President Donald Trump, stating, “The America I love is currently in the hands of a corrupt, incompetent, and treasonous administration.”
