“By far the best live performance of ‘Paradise City’ I’ve ever witnessed”: Rare 1987 Guns N’ Roses concert footage emerges online

The “Paradise City” footage was captured on the very night Guns N’ Roses recorded the Welcome to the Jungle music video.

Rare footage of a young Guns N’ Roses performing “Paradise City” has recently appeared online. The fan-recorded video was shot at the Park Plaza Hotel in Los Angeles on August 2, 1987—the same night the band filmed the promotional video for “Welcome to the Jungle.”

“Due to high demand, I decided to share my favorite performance from this iconic and previously unreleased concert,” said the uploader, who goes by Red’s GNR Videos. “This is, by far, the best live version of ‘Paradise City’ I’ve ever seen, featuring the absolute peak of Axl’s scream right before the double-time solo.”

Some clips from the Park Plaza performance had been released previously as bonus content online tied to Canter’s book.

“Nothing like this existed before,” he told Classic Rock in 2008. “When you browse a page online, a song can pop out and play—whether it’s a live performance or an interview. Most of this material has been sitting in my collection for years, unseen and unheard by anyone.”
