Bruce Springsteen has shared encouraging news about his wife Patti Scialfa’s health, revealing that she is now in remission after living with multiple myeloma for more than eight years.
The 76-year-old rock legend delivered the update through a pre-recorded video shown during the annual Pan-Mass Challenge, a charity cycling event that supports cancer research and patient care at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. Along with a heartfelt message, Springsteen also performed an acoustic version of his classic song, “Born to Run.”
In his remarks, Springsteen praised participants for their decades-long commitment to raising funds and supporting families affected by cancer. He said their efforts have proven that ordinary people can make an extraordinary impact and have helped save countless lives.
While discussing the cause, Springsteen revealed that Scialfa’s condition has improved significantly, announcing that she is currently in remission. He also reflected on the millions of families facing cancer, emphasizing that hope can be found in the dedication of doctors, nurses, researchers, and caregivers who continue to support patients every day.
The singer added that much of his songwriting has celebrated people who persevere through hardship and refuse to abandon others during difficult times. He said those same qualities are reflected in the volunteers and supporters who make the Pan-Mass Challenge possible.
Scialfa first spoke publicly about her diagnosis in the 2024 documentary Road Diary: Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band, explaining that she was diagnosed with multiple myeloma in 2018. She shared that the illness affects her immune system, requiring her to be selective about travel and public appearances. Although she occasionally joins Springsteen onstage for a few songs, she said she has adjusted to this new chapter of her life.
At the documentary’s Los Angeles premiere later that year, Springsteen discussed how his wife’s health journey had influenced his outlook. He said their experience has made thoughts about mortality a natural part of life, reinforcing the importance of appreciating every moment together.
