Bon Jovi Wraps MSG Residency with Surprise Bruce Springsteen Duet After Ending Earlier Show Due to Sinus Infection

Jon Bon Jovi and Bon Jovi brought their Madison Square Garden residency to an unforgettable conclusion, with a surprise appearance from another New Jersey music legend.
During the sold-out concert on Sunday, July 26, longtime friend and fellow New Jersey native Bruce Springsteen unexpectedly joined the band onstage. After introducing Springsteen as “the king of the great state of New Jersey,” Bon Jovi welcomed him for a performance of “Who Says You Can’t Go Home.” Springsteen then took the spotlight for his own classic, “The Promised Land,” originally released in 1978.
The concert was the ninth and currently final performance in Bon Jovi’s Madison Square Garden residency. The run began July 7 as part of the band’s Forever Tour, marking their first tour in four years. The lengthy break followed Bon Jovi’s 2022 vocal cord surgery and the subsequent period he spent rebuilding his ability to perform live.
Springsteen’s surprise appearance came only a few days after Bon Jovi was forced to end the residency’s eighth show earlier than planned because he was dealing with a sinus infection.
During the July 23 performance, Bon Jovi reassured concertgoers that he intended to make arrangements for the interrupted show and encouraged them to hold on to their ticket stubs. He explained that he needed to take a night off before leaving the stage.
A representative for Bon Jovi subsequently confirmed that the singer had been battling a sinus infection, which was responsible for the early conclusion. The representative also emphasized how happy Bon Jovi has been to return to performing live during the Madison Square Garden residency.
Springsteen had already shown his support for the comeback. He attended Bon Jovi’s July 14 MSG concert, with Bon Jovi later sharing a backstage photo of the two musicians on social media and expressing his disbelief that the moment had actually happened.
The two New Jersey icons have shared the stage numerous times over the years. Just a month earlier, they performed together at the Music America: The Songs That Shaped Us event celebrating the Bruce Springsteen Center for American Music. Alongside Jackson Browne, Public Enemy and the Disciples of Soul, they performed Eddie Floyd’s “Raise Your Hand.” Bon Jovi, Springsteen and Steven Van Zandt later teamed up for Southside Johnny’s “I Don’t Want to Go Home.”
Their musical partnership also stretches back to February 2024, when Springsteen joined Bon Jovi at the MusiCares gala celebrating Bon Jovi as the organisation’s Person of the Year. The pair performed “Who Says You Can’t Go Home” and Springsteen’s “The Promised Land” that night — the same two songs they reunited to perform at Madison Square Garden.
