Billy Joel Set to Make History with Three Landmark Summer Concerts in New York City—Here’s What to Expect

Billy Joel is set to make history with his New York City concerts this summer.
The Vienna singer will become the first artist to perform at all three major N.Y.C. sports stadiums—Yankee Stadium, Citi Field, and MetLife Stadium—within the span of a month.
“I’m looking forward to playing these iconic stadiums this summer—each holds personal significance to me,” Joel, 75, told Billboard.
“There’s nothing like the energy of the crowds in New York, and sharing a stage with my friends Rod Stewart, Sting, and Stevie Nicks, whose music always inspires me, is incredibly rewarding.”
Rod Stewart, 80, will join Billy Joel for his Yankee Stadium concert on Friday, July 18. Joel previously performed at the original Yankee Stadium in 1990. According to the New York Daily News, he will become the first artist to have played both the old Yankee Stadium, which closed in 2008, and the new stadium, which opened in 2009.
On Friday, Aug. 8, Stevie Nicks, 76, will share the stage with Joel at MetLife Stadium, home to the New York Giants and New York Jets. This will mark Joel’s first-ever performance at the venue.
Finally, on Thursday, Aug. 21, Sting, 73, will join Joel at Citi Field, home of the New York Mets. The Long Island native was notably the last artist to perform at the Mets’ former home, Shea Stadium, in 2008 before it was demolished.
Joel’s 2025 tour comes on the heels of his historic residency at Madison Square Garden, where he performed monthly from January 2014 to July 2024—pausing only for the COVID-19 pandemic and select dates in June 2017 and December 2022.
In addition to his touring, Joel took the stage at the 2024 Grammy Awards, debuting Turn the Lights Back On, his first new song in 17 years.
As for the possibility of more new music, the River of Dreams singer told Rolling Stone in 2019, “I’m never going to say never.”
“I may come up with an idea that could become a song. I may write a movie soundtrack. I may write a symphony,” he said. “I don’t know. Anything’s possible.”
“It’s really the creative process that matters to me, not having records on the charts or selling a lot of albums,” Joel continued. “I’m always learning, and you never stop. That’s what makes the writing process so fulfilling—you discover something new every time you create.”
