“When AC/DC gives you a nickname, it’s one that lasts!”
AC/DC celebrated Taylor Momsen with a bat-themed birthday party after the Pretty Reckless frontwoman was bitten by a bat while opening for the rock legends.
In a new interview with Metal Hammer, Momsen shared that the band now calls her “Batgirl,” a nickname inspired by the incident during their joint 2024 tour of Europe.
“We were performing in Spain when a bat swooped down and landed on me,” she recounted. “I didn’t even realize it had bitten me at first. I had to get a series of rabies shots, but it ended up becoming a funny inside joke on the tour. The bat itself was actually really cute, if that helps!”
The band apparently got wind of the story, which sparked a series of playful antics throughout the tour.
“Every time I entered my dressing room, there was a tiny bat-shaped rubber duck waiting for me,” Momsen explained. “At one show, we walked on stage to find our amps covered in ‘No bat’ signs. They even threw me a birthday party complete with a huge bat-shaped cake and a tiara made from bat horns—it was wild. And when AC/DC gives you a nickname, it sticks!”
The teasing was all in good fun, and The Pretty Reckless have continued to tour alongside AC/DC since then. After wrapping the 2024 European leg, the two bands played more shows together across Europe in 2025, and they’re scheduled to tour North, Central, and South America together this year, kicking off in Brazil in February—hopefully with no bats this time.
Outside of touring, The Pretty Reckless released Taylor Momsen’s Pretty Reckless Christmas last year, a holiday EP featuring Momsen’s rendition of Where Are You Christmas?, a song she first performed as a seven-year-old playing Cindy Lou Who in the 2000 Jim Carrey film How The Grinch Stole Christmas.
In between the American dates with AC/DC, The Pretty Reckless will return to Europe for several festival appearances, including Download Festival in the UK this June.
