One can confidently affirm that Kirk Hammett and James Hetfield thoroughly enjoyed their time at Power Trip this past weekend.

Unless you purposely abstained from the internet out of understandable envy this past weekend, you’re likely aware that the inaugural Power Trip festival unfolded from Friday to Sunday (October 6-8). It boasted the most substantial gathering of hard rock and heavy metal headliners ever assembled on a single lineup. Guns N’ Roses, Iron Maiden, AC/DC, Judas Priest, Metallica, and Tool took the stage, entertaining nearly 100,000 fans over three spectacular days at the Empire Polo Club in Indio, California. Notably, AC/DC’s remarkable performance marked their first show in seven years.

Social media has been inundated with photos and videos capturing various members of the participating bands hanging out, catching up, and enjoying each other’s performances. However, few instances have garnered as much attention as the snapshots and footage depicting Metallica’s guitar duo, James Hetfield and Kirk Hammett, relishing the moment and thoroughly immersing themselves in Judas Priest’s set on Saturday night.

Although the legendary metal outfit wasn’t scheduled to perform until Sunday, it seems they stealthily arrived in town early to partake in the festivities firsthand. A photo of Hetfield and Hammett energetically engaging with the crowd was shared on Metallica’s official Instagram page, and fan-captured videos of frontman Hetfield reveling in the experience have been circulating on social media platforms.

Judas Priest has undeniably exerted a profound influence on Metallica, resulting in several collaborative live performances between the two iconic bands over the years. Notably, Rob Halford, the frontman of Judas Priest, has joined Metallica on stage to deliver powerful renditions of his band’s timeless anthem, “Rapid Fire,” on multiple occasions. Additionally, in 2021, Kirk Hammett made a memorable appearance alongside Judas Priest, contributing his guitar prowess to their acclaimed cover of Fleetwood Mac’s “The Green Manalishi (With The Two Prong Crown).”

It’s safe to assume that Metallica also had an absolute blast during AC/DC’s spectacular headline performance on Saturday night. After all, they are renowned for playing AC/DC’s “It’s A Long Way To The Top (If You Wanna Rock ‘n’ Roll)” over the PA before every one of their own shows, showcasing their deep appreciation for the legendary rock band.
