The Osbournes Delve into the Infamous ‘Ant-Snorting’ Ozzy Tale, with Sharon Expressing Strong Views on Motley Crue’s Bassist

The Osbourne family has never been shy about sharing their thoughts on current events, legendary tales, or their fellow celebrities, and the latest episode of their popular podcast continued in the same candid spirit.

In this particular episode, which featured Ozzy, Sharon, Jack, and Kelly, the conversation revolved around the 2019 Mötley Crüe biopic “The Dirt,” which is based on the notorious book of the same name. Jack inquired about the book’s famous account of Ozzy supposedly snorting a line of ants while on tour with Mötley Crüe in 1984, and questioned whether it truly happened. Surprisingly, Sharon expressed her skepticism about the incident, even though it was depicted in the film adaptation.

“I wasn’t there, thank goodness,” she stated (as transcribed by Blabbermouth). “I used to try to keep my distance from Mötley when they were with Ozzy. And I don’t know. I honestly don’t know. All I can say is that I think [the story] made it into their movie.”

Sharon continued by pointing out that the film seemed to heavily feature Ozzy, portrayed by Tony Cavalero, in its marketing. She questioned, “I’m curious, now that we’re discussing it, why, in their promotion for the movie on Netflix, it’s an image of a guy imitating Ozzy.” She further inquired, “Why isn’t the advertising campaign centered on an image of Mötley Crüe? Why does it feature a picture of your father?”

In the discussion, Jack provides an explanation, saying, “‘Cause Ozzy Osbourne’s bigger than Mötley Crüe.” Ozzy, looking somewhat embarrassed, tries to steer the conversation away, but Sharon candidly interjects, “Nikki Sixx: asshole.” Ozzy contests, “No, he’s not,” but Sharon remains firm in her opinion, affirming, “Yes, he definitely is.”

Jack, aiming to settle the matter once and for all, directs the question to his parents once more, asking if the ant-snorting story actually happened. “I say no,” Sharon responds. Ozzy, on the other hand, enthusiastically asserts, “Yes! I did it!”

Ozzy has openly acknowledged over the years that his memories of the tour with Mötley Crüe, which spanned over 18 months from 1983 to 1985, are hazy due to his excessive substance use during that time. As a result, the accuracy of the ant-snorting tale is open to interpretation, perhaps best enjoyed with a pinch of salt—or ants.
