Noel Stookey Shares Concerns Over Bob Dylan’s Extensive Touring Schedule
Noel Stookey, a member of the legendary folk group Peter, Paul and Mary, said he feels disappointed and concerned that Bob Dylan continues performing such a demanding number of shows at the age of 85.
In an interview with Rolling Stone published Tuesday, June 23, the 88-year-old musician reflected on Dylan’s busy touring schedule. Stookey revealed that he had not spoken with Dylan since a television appearance in 1986, but he recently attended one of Dylan’s concerts in Boston.
When asked about Dylan performing close to 100 concerts each year, Stookey admitted that seeing the singer maintain such a schedule left him feeling “saddened.”
He explained that he believes touring is Dylan’s main focus at this stage of his life, adding that he noticed Dylan often performs while seated at the piano. After watching the Boston performance, Stookey said he wondered whether maintaining personal connections might be difficult for the legendary artist because of his constant touring.
Stookey also shared that he did not particularly enjoy the Boston concert. He told Rolling Stone that while Dylan was physically present on stage, he felt the singer did not emotionally connect with the audience.
According to Stookey, the performance felt as though Dylan was simply completing the show rather than performing because of the people who came to see him.
