Ozzy Osbourne might have been closer to performing at the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame ceremony than initially believed.
Inducted as a solo artist at the 2024 event, Osbourne had hoped to take the stage despite his health struggles that led to his retirement from touring. However, he ended up watching the ceremony from a throne as a variety of musicians, including guitarist Zakk Wylde, Tool’s Maynard James Keenan, Metallica’s Robert Trujillo, Jelly Roll, and Wolfgang Van Halen, paid tribute to him.
In a recent appearance on the Shred with Shifty podcast, Zakk Wylde shared how close Ozzy Osbourne came to performing at the ceremony.
Wylde explained, “Ozzy sang ‘Mama’ the day before, because Jelly Roll wasn’t there. So, at rehearsal, Ozzy sang it.”
When asked why Osbourne ultimately chose not to perform at the main event, Wylde admitted he wasn’t sure.
“I’m not sure,” the guitarist admitted. “I think the idea was for everyone to do a tribute to the boss, kind of like how Kelly Clarkson performed with Foreigner and Lou Graham. You know, Kelly was mainly singing the whole thing, that sort of thing.”
