The legendary metal band is currently performing across major stadiums throughout Europe and is scheduled to arrive in the UK later this month.
Metallica have released professionally filmed concert footage showcasing performances of “Creeping Death” and “King Nothing” from the opening night of their current European tour.
The legendary metal group launched the trek on May 9 at Olympic Stadium in Athens, Greece. Recordings of the two songs from that performance were recently uploaded to YouTube as the band continues its journey across Europe.
Since the tour began, Metallica has played shows in several countries, including Romania, Poland, Germany, and Switzerland. The band’s schedule continues with a stop at Stadio Renato Dall’Ara in Bologna, Italy, before heading to the United Kingdom later in June. UK dates include a performance at Glasgow’s Hampden Park on June 25, followed by appearances in Cardiff and London through early July.
The tour continues to support Metallica’s 2023 album, 72 Seasons, which was met with favorable reviews upon release. Joining the band on select dates are fellow heavy acts such as Gojira, Pantera, Knocked Loose, and Avatar.
For certain cities, Metallica is once again employing its popular “No Repeat Weekend” concept. Under this format, the band performs two concerts at the same venue on separate nights, featuring completely different setlists and opening acts for each show.
Following the European run, Metallica is scheduled to begin a residency at the Sphere in Las Vegas later this year. The engagement will run from October into November before resuming in early 2027. The residency will make Metallica the first metal act to headline the cutting-edge venue, which has previously hosted artists including U2, Phish, Eagles, and Chase & Status.
Another group interested in performing at the Sphere is Tool. Earlier this year, drummer Danny Carey expressed enthusiasm about the possibility, while also mentioning hopes of releasing the band’s next studio album in 2027, which would follow their 2019 release, Fear Inoculum.
Although the Sphere has yet to host a metal concert, it has welcomed notable figures from the genre. Last year, Geezer Butler attended a performance by the Backstreet Boys and humorously shared a photo from the event on social media.
“Creeping Death” originally appeared on Metallica’s 1984 album Ride the Lightning and remains one of the band’s most frequently performed songs in concert. “King Nothing,” meanwhile, debuted on the 1996 album Load and later became one of the record’s standout singles. Last year saw the release of an expanded reissue of Load, while a similarly extensive re-release of its follow-up album, Reload, is scheduled to arrive later this month.
