Linda Perry said Billy Corgan was stunned after she asked him to leave the studio during a session with Courtney Love, recalling in a new interview with NME that “Billy was shocked and left.”
Linda Perry recently shared a memorable studio moment involving Billy Corgan and Courtney Love during a recording session.
In an interview with NME, Perry recalled collaborating with Love when Corgan stopped by the studio but quickly disrupted the atmosphere. According to the former 4 Non Blondes frontwoman, his attitude negatively affected the creative environment, prompting members of her band to say they could no longer work comfortably with him present.
Perry said she eventually confronted the The Smashing Pumpkins frontman directly, telling him he was bringing bad energy into the studio and asking him to leave. She remembered Corgan appearing stunned before walking out, while Love was reportedly shocked that Perry had actually done it.
The producer and songwriter previously collaborated with Love on several projects, including songs from Love’s 2004 solo album America’s Sweetheart and Hole’s 2010 album Nobody’s Daughter. Corgan also contributed to the latter record, including the song “Samantha,” which was co-written by all three musicians.
Love and Corgan famously dated in the early 1990s before Love later married late Kurt Cobain. Perry also reflected on Love’s personality during the interview, describing her as both intimidating and deeply sensitive beneath her tough exterior.
