Jack Black emphasized that he would never support hate speech or endorse political violence in any form, in response to his longtime friend and bandmate Kyle Gass’s controversial remark.
It seems there’s been a significant development with Tenacious D. Kyle Gass made a controversial comment about Donald Trump during their recent show, which was captured in a fan-recorded video on X (formerly Twitter). Jack Black, in response, expressed being blindsided by Gass’s remarks and stated on Instagram that he does not condone hate speech or political violence in any form. As a result, he announced the indefinite postponement of the Tenacious D tour and all future creative plans.
Kyle Gass posted a response addressing his onstage comment, stating, “The line I improvised onstage Sunday night in Sydney was highly inappropriate, dangerous, and a terrible mistake.” He emphasized that he does not support any form of violence against anyone and expressed deep regret for his lapse in judgment, acknowledging the seriousness of the incident.
Kyle Gass concluded his statement by expressing deep regret and apologizing to those he has disappointed. His comment, made during a Tenacious D show in Sydney on Sunday, involved a joke about his 64th birthday wish being “don’t miss Trump next time.”
Kyle Gass and Jack Black have maintained a friendship spanning nearly 40 years and formed Tenacious D in 1994. The comedy-rock band has released four studio albums and remains active in touring.
In addition to their musical collaboration, Black and Gass starred together in the 2006 film “Tenacious D in The Pick of Destiny” and worked on other projects, including a Tenacious D TV series that aired from 1997 to 2000.
Meanwhile, former President Trump appeared at the 2024 Republican National Convention in Milwaukee shortly after surviving an assassination attempt at a campaign rally in Pennsylvania. The incident, where gunman Thomas Matthew Crooks fired shots that injured Trump’s ear, occurred on Saturday. Despite the attack, Republican leaders proceeded with the convention, and Trump appeared with a bandaged ear alongside his newly named running mate, Ohio senator J.D. Vance, for the convention’s opening night on Monday.
