The Iron Maiden vocalist performed the U.S. National Anthem before the Steelers–Seahawks matchup.
Bruce Dickinson has joined the list of musicians who’ve been invited to perform The Star-Spangled Banner at an NFL game in the U.S.
The Iron Maiden singer stepped onto the field at Pittsburgh’s Acrisure Stadium, where 66,347 fans packed the stands for the Steelers’ first home game of the season against the Seattle Seahawks. Delivering the anthem in his signature powerhouse style as helicopters flew overhead, Dickinson exited to chants of “U.S.A! U.S.A!”—though mascot Eddie was notably absent.
Ahead of the performance, Dickinson spoke with Elizabeth Zharoff on her podcast The Charismatic Voice, sharing: “Here’s a little secret—I’m going to sing the national anthem in Pittsburgh for the Steelers. They’ve asked me, and I’ll be doing it a cappella. As long as you start in the right key, you’ll be fine.”
Dickinson was already in town for a stop on The Mandrake Project tour at Stage AE. However, his appearance wasn’t enough to spark a win for the Steelers, who fell 31–17 to the Seahawks after a costly error from rookie running back and kick returner Kaleb Johnson.
“Just don’t think about it,” Johnson said after the game. “Move forward—we’ve got a long season ahead.”
