Jack Black Joins Forces with Tom Morello’s Son Roman for a Touching Tribute to Morello’s Mother, Mary

Rage Against The Machine guitarist Tom Morello threw a Los Angeles party earlier this week to celebrate his mother Mary’s 100th birthday. The highlight of the event was a special performance by Jack Black, who sang Ozzy Osbourne’s classic “Mr. Crowley.” He was backed by a band of 12 and 13-year-olds, which included Morello’s son Roman on guitar.

Jack Black began the performance by paying tribute to Mrs. Morello, saying, “What an amazing mom, and what an amazing life.” The performance, reminiscent of the movie ‘School of Rock,’ was witnessed by notable guests, including Morello’s bandmates Zack de la Rocha, Tim Commerford, and Brad Wilk, as well as Jane’s Addiction frontman Perry Farrell and System of a Down frontman Serj Tankian.

Tom Morello shared a video clip of the performance on his Instagram on October 3, with the caption, “Mary Morello’s 100th bday celebration featured a stirring rendition of @ozzyosbourne & #RandyRhoads “Mr. Crowley” performed by @jackblack and a kick ass band of 12 & 13 year olds! Mary was pleased!”

Earlier this year, Jack Black and his Tenacious D bandmate Kyle Gass had the opportunity to interview Ozzy Osbourne for Metal Hammer.

Reflecting on the experience, Black shared, “Ozzy was my introduction to heavy metal music. I bought Blizzard Of Ozz back in the early ’80s, and it changed my life. He’s a true inspiration and a hero of mine.”
