An audience member appeared to throw a vinyl record at Eric Clapton during a concert in Spain.
Eric Clapton abruptly ended his concert in Madrid, Spain, after an object thrown from the audience struck him.
The legendary blues musician was accepting applause near the close of his performance at Movistar Arena when what appeared to be a vinyl record flew from the crowd and hit him in the chest.
Although Clapton did not seem seriously hurt, the incident prompted the 81-year-old performer to leave the stage before returning for the planned encore.
The guitarist is currently touring across Europe ahead of a scheduled series of U.S. performances later this year.
For the American dates, Jimmie Vaughan will appear as a special guest. Clapton’s touring band will also include guitarist Doyle Bramhall II, drummer Sonny Emory, keyboardists Chris Stainton and Tim Carmon, bassist Nathan East, and backing vocalists Katie Kissoon and Sharon White.
While performers being targeted by objects thrown from crowds is not a new issue, similar incidents have become increasingly common at live concerts in recent years.
Although Eric Clapton did not appear to suffer any injuries, the incident deprived fans of an encore following a performance filled with his biggest hits.
Several other performers have also been hurt in recent years after objects were thrown at them from the crowd during live shows.
