Before their first of four concerts in Dublin on Thursday, August 29, Chris Martin made waves in the Irish capital with an impromptu performance of their new song “WE PRAY” on Grafton Street—along with all its featured collaborators.
On the evening of Wednesday, August 28, Nigerian artist Burna Boy, English rapper Little Simz, Palestinian-Chilean singer Elyanna, and Argentine vocalist Tini—who are all part of the track released on August 23—joined Martin, 47, for the surprise street performance.
Armed with just a speaker and a few microphones, the ensemble performed their respective parts as a thrilled crowd recorded and cheered, with videos later posted on Coldplay’s social media platforms.
In one video, Burna Boy, 33, can be heard singing, “On my knees, I pray, as I sleep and wake / ‘Cause inside my head is a frightening place. / Keep a smiling face, only by this grace / ‘Cause love’s more than I can take.”
Additional footage captures the musicians grinning, dancing, and performing together, while onlookers gather around and even lean out of windows to catch a glimpse of the spontaneous show.
In the video, Martin seems to be giving the artists a motivational pep talk as they join hands for a pre-show circle. He concludes with, “That’s all,” as someone off-camera encourages, “You’re gonna be amazing, guys!”
This surprise performance took place during Coldplay’s A Head Full of Dreams Tour. After their four shows at Dublin’s Croke Park, the band will take a nearly two-month hiatus before their upcoming album, Moon Music, is released on October 4. The tour will then continue with performances in Melbourne and Sydney, concluding in Auckland, New Zealand, on November 16.
