Italian tenor Andrea Bocelli has shared footage of a moving performance of Queen’s “Who Wants to Live Forever,” alongside the band’s legendary guitarist Brian May.
The concert was filmed in July 2024 at the Teatro del Silenzio, a 10,000-seat open-air amphitheatre in Bocelli’s hometown of Lajatico, Tuscany — a venue partially funded by the singer himself.
The duet was part of Andrea Bocelli 30: The Celebration, a three-day event marking his three-decade career. The star-studded lineup also included appearances from Plácido Domingo, José Carreras, Shania Twain, Jon Batiste, Russell Crowe, Ed Sheeran, Kim and Khloé Kardashian, Will Smith, Sofía Vergara, Lang Lang, and Johnny Depp.
Reflecting on his collaboration with May, Bocelli said: “The first thing that struck me about Brian was his calm, almost classical presence, so different from the global rock legend his name evokes. Meeting him left me with a deep admiration for a man of rare intellect and culture — I hope the feeling is mutual. He is not only one of the greatest guitarists and songwriters of our time, but also an astrophysicist and an intellectual with a noble spirit.”
Bocelli recalled another recent encounter with the Queen guitarist: “Just a few days ago at Hyde Park in London, Brian did me the honour of attending my concert. When I asked him about his guitars, he told me, ‘Andrea, just as your voice is part of you, my guitar is my voice. I still play the one I built with my father when I was seventeen.’”
The tenor concluded with warm praise: “Wonderful Brian — it will be a joy for me, and for everyone, to share the stage with you at the Teatro del Silenzio.”
