Brian May appears on the track “Eternia,” a composition created by Daniel Pemberton for the Masters of the Universe soundtrack.
Masters of the Universe is set to premiere tomorrow, May 18, at the TCL Chinese Theatre, and fans already have an early preview of its soundtrack thanks to two newly released versions of the track “Eternia.”
The compositions were created by Daniel Pemberton and feature legendary Brian May, whose soaring guitar work has been described as some of his most dramatic and powerful playing in years. Pemberton called the project his “most maximalist score ever,” and the grand, cinematic sound of “Eternia” reflects that ambition.
Reacting to the release, May enthusiastically celebrated the track online, expressing excitement that fans could finally hear it and referencing the famous He-Man catchphrase, “We have the power!”
Pemberton is known for composing music for major productions including Project Hail Mary, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, The Man from U.N.C.L.E., and King Arthur: Legend of the Sword.
Earlier this year, May revealed he had been collaborating with Pemberton on the film and hinted that his iconic handmade guitar, the Red Special, would play a major role in the soundtrack.
This is not May’s first venture into film music. He previously contributed to the soundtrack for Pinocchio and later composed music for Furia. Alongside Queen, he also helped create the memorable soundtrack for Flash Gordon, including its famous theme song.
The new Masters of the Universe film stars Nicholas Galitzine as He-Man, Jared Leto as Skeletor, and Idris Elba as Man-at-Arms. The movie is scheduled for wide theatrical release on June 5.
